Court & Diamond Fire: Flying High with Some UND Hoops Scoop and Spitfires Action!






         Good Evening and Happy Thursday June 25th, 2026 Fighting Hawk and Spitfire Fans! Did your Thursday fly like a breeze, or  are you counting down the minutes until Friday morning? Either way, you made it through the hardest part of the week, and I truly hope your day was filled with big wins and even bigger cups of coffee. Grab your favorite drink, kick off your shoes, and let's dive right into today's blog that features UND Men's Basketball, and Grand Forks Spitfires Softball before the weekend officially begins!


        Fighting Hawk Men's Basketball is all set to take the court and play in the Riviera Maya region of Cancun, Mexico. The exciting and highly anticipated 2026 Cancun Challenge, which will be held at the luxurious Hard Rock Hotel in the heart of Cancun, is the prestigious event the team will be competing in. The tournament will run from Tuesday, November 24th through Wednesday, November 25th, 2026, spanning those two consecutive days. Specific details about game times, the schedule, and the bracket will be announced at a later date as the tournament approaches. The tournament will be the Hawks' second time competing in the event after they participated in it in 2024.


        The Grand Forks Spitfires engaged in a competitive matchup against the Mankato Habaneros on Friday, June 19th, 2026, and ultimately emerged victorious, decisively beating the Habaneros in their home city of Mankato, Minnesota. Then, on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, the Spitfires traveled to compete against the LaCrosse Steam in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and managed to defeat the Steam with a final score of 9-7 in an exciting contest. Continuing their strong performance, on Sunday, June 21st, 2026, the Grand Forks team took down the LaCrosse squad once again with an impressive 10-8 victory. However, on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, Mattison Kwarta and the GF Spitfires faced off against the Minot Honeybees in a challenging game and unfortunately lost to the Honeybees with a disappointing final score of 10-1. On Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, the Spitfires and the Honeybees squared off once more in another intense matchup. The scoring action began in the 3rd inning when Minot's Alex Serbio scored a run to put the Honeybees ahead 1-0. At the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Spitfires answered back and scored an impressive 5 runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead. In the 4th inning, the Honeybees brought the game closer to 6-5 when they scored 5 runs while successfully keeping the Spitfires from scoring any additional runs. In the 5th inning, Addison Craig, Makenna Alexander, Alex Graham, and Brooklyn Hofer each scored runs to bring the Spitfires to a 9-6 advantage. In the 6th inning, the Honeybees scored an impressive 7 runs to take a commanding 13-9 lead. There was no scoring in the 7th inning. Ultimately, the Spitfires were defeated 13-9 by the Honeybees in a hard-fought contest.
