Starting this evening, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks football squad will be launching their season with a matchup against LIU (Long Island University) Sharks, scheduled for tonight, Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CDT. For those unable to attend the game in person, there are alternative viewing options available, such as tuning in through Midco Sports Network or ESPN+. Meanwhile, if you happen to be traveling while the game is taking place, you'll have the opportunity to follow the action by listening to the game broadcast on the Fighting Hawks Radio Network.
Prediction Time! Both UND and LIU are starting their seasons. I expect to see a strong Fighting Hawk Offense take the field in the game versus LIU. I predict the UND Defense will hold down the LIU Offense effectively. I expect the Hawk Special Teams to perform really well. If North Dakota receives no yard penalties against the Sharks they will be in good shape. I predict a 50-0 Fighting Hawks Victory!
This week's Thursday Sports Feature will feature Caleb Olson. Caleb Olson dons jersey number 51. He serves as an Offensive Lineman representing UND Football. Olson is a Graduate Student hailing from Fort Ransom, North Dakota. He's participated in 20 total career games after sitting out his freshman year. During Olson's Sophomore season, his blocking contributions enabled the Hawks to accumulate more than four hundred fifty yards of offensive production in 3 out of 8 contests he participated in. Throughout his Junior year, he took the field and started all 12 games. Olson's blocking efforts contributed to the Hawks achieving a ranking of 13th in the Football Championship Subdivision in red-zone performance. In his Senior year, Caleb Olson appeared in only 1 game—the season opener versus KSU (Kansas State)—as an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
