From the Hardwood to the Gridiron: Football Fights to the Finish, Hoops Hit a Wall
Good Afternoon and Happy Monday December 8th, 2025! I hope you are having an absolutely fantastic and wonderful day filled with joy, positivity, and delightful moments that bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart! I want to give a Happy Birthday Shoutout before I get down to business. Happy Birthday to my mom! She's a blog family member and a proud, loving supporter of me since I was born. Today I am going dive into some UND Football and Men's and Women's Basketball talk.
The Fighting Hawk Football team engaged in an intense matchup against Tarleton State University (TSU) on Saturday, December 6th. The game began with TSU establishing an early lead by kicking a field goal, putting them ahead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, TSU continued their offensive momentum, adding another field goal to extend their lead to 6-0. The Texans then scored a touchdown, dramatically increasing their advantage to 13-0 against the Hawks. North Dakota responded with a touchdown before halftime, narrowing the score to 13-7. The third quarter saw TSU further solidifying their dominance, pushing the score to 21-7 and then adding another field goal to reach 24-7. In the final quarter, the Fighting Hawks demonstrated resilience by scoring a touchdown, which brought the score to 24-13. However, TSU delivered a final blow, ultimately winning the game 31-13. Despite the loss, the Fighting Hawks concluded their season with a commendable 8-6 record, marking the first season under head coach Eric Schmidt's leadership. The game showcased the team's competitive spirit and potential for future success, even in the face of a challenging defeat.
The University of North Dakota (UND) Men's Basketball team faced a challenging week, first encountering the University of Idaho (UI) on Wednesday, December 3rd, where they suffered a significant defeat with a final score of 90-58. Following this loss, they competed against the University of Montana (UM) on Saturday, December 6th, in a closely contested match that ultimately ended with a narrow 79-75 loss. Simultaneously, the UND Fighting Hawks Women's Basketball team also experienced a difficult week, playing against the University of Montana (UM) on Wednesday, December 3rd, and Montana State University (MSU) on Saturday, December 6th. The women's team struggled in both games, losing to Montana with a score of 86-56 and to Montana State with a more substantial margin of 99-57. These consecutive losses highlighted the challenges faced by both UND basketball programs during this competitive period.
