Heart, Hustle, Hoops: A Basketball Player Feature, Half-Court Shots Segment And The Women's Basketball Post Game Recap!

Good Evening and Happy Thursday January 22nd, 2026 Fighting Hawk Fans! I heartfelt hope that your day has been filled with extraordinary moments of joy, exceptional achievements, and satisfying experiences that have brought a smile to your face and warmth to your heart. May the incredible nature of your day continue to resonate with positivity and wonderful memories. Today I will share a Basketball Player Feature, Half Court Shots segment requested from a reader and UND Women's Basketball Postgame today.

This week's Player Feature is UND Basketball Player Mackenzie Hughes. Mackenzie Hughes, a graduate student hailing from Thompson, North Dakota, is pursuing her degree in Business Administration at the University of North Dakota. After transferring from MSU (Mayville State), Hughes has made a significant impact on the Fighting Hawks Women's Basketball Team, where she proudly wears jersey number 5. Her athletic talent is evident in her impressive performance on the court, consistently delivering an average of 9.4 points per game and demonstrating her playmaking skills with 3.1 assists per game. Hughes exemplifies the determination and skill of a student-athlete, balancing her academic pursuits with her passion for basketball.

Who loves half-court shots? If there was a halftime shooting contest, do you think you could shoot a half-court shot? I would try to make a half-court shot, and it would probably hit the rim and bounce back and hit me in the face and I would probably land in the training room getting looked at by a trainer. Haha! But I would try to create halftime excitement with the basketball for my fellow Hawk fans anyway.

The Fighting Hawks Women's Basketball Team faced a challenging game against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026. The game quickly turned into a one-sided affair from the opening quarter. In the first period, SDSU established an early lead, outscoring the Hawks 19-10. The momentum continued to build for the Jackrabbits in the second quarter, where they dramatically expanded their advantage by scoring 27 points while limiting UND to just 8 points. The third quarter proved equally devastating for the Fighting Hawks, with SDSU adding another 30 points to their tally while holding UND to a mere 15 points. In the final quarter, South Dakota State maintained their dominance, scoring 23 points and restricting the Hawks to 14 points. The game concluded with a decisive Victory for the Jackrabbits, who defeated the Fighting Hawks with a lopsided score of 99-47, demonstrating a significant skill and performance gap between the two teams.
