Today I am going to talk UND Hockey, Basketball and Softball.
The UND Hockey team engaged in an intense weekend series against Western Michigan University (WMU), showcasing their skill and determination in the NCHC. The first game on Friday, February 27, 2026, was a triumphant moment for UND, as they secured a decisive 5-3 victory and were crowned the NCHC Penrose Cup Champions. The celebration was short-lived, however, as the following day's game on Saturday, February 28, proved to be a nail-biting encounter. The game extended into overtime, with WMU ultimately emerging victorious by a narrow 4-3 score.
The University of North Dakota Men's Basketball team experienced a challenging week with a single game scheduled on Saturday, February 28th. The intense rivalry match against in-state competitor North Dakota State University (NDSU) resulted in a decisive defeat for the Hawks, with a final score of 96-63. Simultaneously, the Fighting Hawk Women's Basketball team faced similar challenges. On Thursday, February 25th, they competed against the University of South Dakota (USD), ultimately losing the game 80-66. The following Saturday, February 28th, the women's team also confronted their in-state rival NDSU, encountering another significant loss with a final score of 95-70.
The Fighting Hawk Softball team embarked on an impressive weekend at the UTSA Tournament in Texas, showcasing their athletic talent and determination. On Friday, February 27th, the team demonstrated their competitive spirit by securing a thrilling 8-7 victory against the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Despite a challenging 4-0 loss to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in their second game of the day, the team remained resilient. Saturday, February 28th, proved to be a momentous day for the Fighting Hawks. They delivered a powerful performance against UTA, clinching a decisive 16-8 win. This remarkable victory was particularly significant for Head Coach Jordan Stevens, who achieved a milestone by earning his 200th victory as the team's leader. In their subsequent match against Saint Francis University (SFU), the team continued their winning momentum, dominating the game with a commanding 12-3 triumph. The team's exceptional weekend concluded on Sunday, March 1st, with another impressive win against New Mexico State (NMST). The Fighting Hawks secured a solid 5-2 victory, further solidifying their reputation as a formidable softball team with exceptional skill and team spirit.
