On Saturday, September 12th, 2026, the UND Fighting Hawks engaged in competitive play against Portland State University Vikings in what would prove to be a decisive matchup. Throughout the opening first quarter, the North Dakota squad demonstrated remarkable offensive prowess and aggressive execution, managing to put 14 points on the scoreboard while simultaneously executing a suffocating defensive performance that completely shut down any scoring opportunities for the Portland State side, establishing an early commanding advantage of 14-0 as both teams transitioned into the second quarter of play. The second quarter witnessed a shift in momentum, as both squads found their rhythm offensively and began contributing to the scoring column. The Hawks extended their dominance with a precision field goal executed by kicker Kenten Laughman, pushing their lead to 17-0, though the Vikings responded with an 8-point scoring drive that narrowed the North Dakota advantage to a more competitive 17-8. As the quarter progressed further, running back Charles Langama delivered an impressive touchdown that stretched UND's lead back out to 24-8, and the Kelly Green and White of North Dakota added an additional 2 points through a safety, widening their halftime lead to a substantial 26-8. Following the intermission break, the third quarter saw Portland State's Cru Newman score and cut into the deficit, bringing the score to 26-16 in favor of UND. In the fourth and final quarter, the Fighting Hawks unleashed an explosive offensive display, scoring 3 consecutive touchdowns, while Portland State managed to respond with just 1 touchdown of their own, ultimately resulting in a convincing 47-23 victory for the Hawks. With this impressive win now in the books, the UND Football squad has successfully launched their season with an outstanding undefeated 3-0 record, marking only the 3rd season since UND transitioned to NCAA Division I FCS competition that the Fighting Hawks have achieved such a strong 3-0 start.
